MUSEUM WORTHY MUSLIN
Muslin (and chintz, but more on that elsewhere) from India was prized all over the world, particularly in Europe. To this day, vintage Indian fabrics from that era can be found in such noteworthy museums as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
The irony, of course, is that these fabrics are still being made in India, although they are becoming harder and harder to find. Label Rama has found weavers in West Bengal who still make the finest and softest 200 count muslin.
Of the experience of wandering through the villages of West Bengal, our founder Raji says, “Sometimes finding a bathroom was more challenging than finding a muslin weaver!"
We are thrilled and relieved she found both!
