KHADI COUTURE : NOT JUST FOR POLITICIANS

This exquisite hand-spun and handwoven fabric is crafted from natural fibers like cotton, silk, or wool. The process of spinning and weaving Khadi is time consuming and labor-intensive, involving traditional spinning wheels called charkhas and wooden hand looms.

Khadi (derived from Khaddar, the name for the coarse workhouse fabric that was a rural mainstay) was born out of the Swadeshi movement, India’s fight for independence from its colonial masters. In response to British restrictions on Indian textiles, Khadi became a symbol of India’s self-reliance and empowerment.

The launch of the Swadesh movement on August 7, 1905 is, to this day, commemorated as National Handloom Day.
